International Students

Eligible international applicants must also fulfill the Graduate Admissions Process for International Applicants. International students already in the U.S., Permanent Residents, or Holders of Another Visa Status must check with the State Department prior to submitting the application to determine whether or not the visa permits participation. International students may only register for the specific program delivery method (F2F or online) into which they were admitted. TOEFL scores are only valid for two years after the test date; IELTS scores have a recommended two-year validity period.

Admitted international students participate 100% as online students. Immigration documents (F-1 or J-1 visas or I-20) are NOT issued for online programs.

The Graduate School will only accept official test scores sent directly by the testing agencies.

You must register for the appropriate tests and request that the testing agencies report your test scores to the University of Maryland, College Park using the following institutional codes: TOEFL – 5814.

IELTS/PTE scores can also be sent electronically and by doing this, an institution code is not required.  PTE test takers can send their score report to the University through their Pearson Account.  The University of Maryland downloads IELTS scores that have been transmitted to our e-download account.  IELTS test takers should contact their IELTS test center directly to request electronic test scores be sent to the following IELTS e-download account:
